Silicon Island: 133.5 hectares reclaimed, and what comes next
As at March 2026, 133.5 hectares of Silicon Island's planned 930.77 hectares had been reclaimed, The Star reported. Phase One, of 513.95 hectares, is targeted by 2031 and an administrative centre on the island for 2028; the Green Tech Park's first factories remain a developer target, and no tenant has been named.
Where reclamation stands
The Star reported on 9 April 2026 that 133.5 ha had been reclaimed as at March 2026, out of 930.77 ha. Phase One covers 513.95 ha and is targeted by 2031; an administrative centre on the island is targeted for 2028.
Those are the milestones to measure it by. For now, most of the island is still to be made.
The Green Tech Park
In October 2025, Silicon Island Development launched Phase 1 of the Green Tech Park to investors. The first factories are the developer's target, and no tenant has been named.
Until a company is named and a factory is built, the park is an invitation to investors, not yet a place of work.
A working coast
The coast here is still fished. Declared fish landings in Teluk Kumbar and Batu Maung were 472.44 tonnes in 2023 and 496.57 tonnes in 2025, according to state exco figures that Malay Mail carried from Bernama on 13 May 2026.
The fishing communities are part of this corner's story, as much as the island taking shape offshore.
