A 42-hectare logistics aeropark is coming to Batu Maung
The Penang International Logistics Aeropark (PILA) is a 42-hectare logistics aeropark in Batu Maung, beside Penang International Airport, being developed by Malaysia Airports (MAHB) and the Penang Development Corporation (PDC). Planning approval came on 27 April 2026 and construction is under way; the Transport Minister said its first phase, a cargo warehouse in a free commercial zone, would be operational by 2029.
What it is
PILA is a 42-hectare logistics aeropark in Batu Maung, adjacent to Penang International Airport. It is a project of Malaysia Airports (MAHB) and the Penang Development Corporation (PDC), The Star reported on 13 August 2026.
Its first phase is a cargo warehouse in a free commercial zone: a place where goods are handled, not where people live or shop.
Where it stands
Planning approval was granted on 27 April 2026 and construction is under way, according to The Star. On the same day, Bernama reported the Transport Minister as saying that Phase 1 would be operational by 2029.
That is the Minister's target. The opening itself is the fact to wait for.
